I always say that I am more excited to have a baby than to get married. It’s true! I always dream of becoming a mom. I also think of what my wedding gown would be, what my wedding song would be and some other wedding stuff but the feeling of excitement it gives me when I think of having my own baby excites me more.
And because of that, I am writing this open letter to my future child. (OW. WAIT! HINDI PO AKO BUTIS! Haha.)
I know you will be appreciative because I will always remind you how important saying “Thank You” is.
I know you will be God-fearing. We will visit all the beautiful churches in the country and hopefully in the world. Please say your prayer in every church that we will visit. In God’s time, honey, your prayers will all come true.
I know you will be the friendliest kid in town! I will introduce to you the kids of my friends. You know I have a lot so yup, you will have a lot too. Also remember that losing friends means gaining truer ones.
I know you will love the mountains and the rivers. While you are still a baby, I will put you inside a basket so you can see how wonderful this world is as I hit the pedals of my favorite 2-wheeled vehicle. Soon, you will have your own bicycle too.
I know you will be a morning person. I will wake you up every single morning -early morning. Like I always say, most things are more enjoyable doing in the morning. We will do yoga first thing after you wake up to start the day right.
I know you will be kuripot and masipag. I will teach you how to save and invest so you can afford everything you need and want. I will teach you how to work hard and happy to get them! I’m not only talking about materials things. This is also about respect, trust and love.
I know you will be one of those brave kids who will be engaged in rallies. I will play Lupang Hinirang while you are still inside my womb. I will make sure it is one of the first songs that you will able to memorize. We will sing it together -loud and proud because that is the proper way to sing the Philippine National Anthem. Keep that fire burning, sabi nga kasi, “Alab ng puso Sa dibdib mo’y buhay”.
I know you will have a heart for the ARTS because there will be lots of paintings and books of short stories and poetries inside your room. I will give you artsy movie and theater play and concert tickets as birthday presents or just random rewards.
To my future child, I would name you Aurora if you’re a girl and if you’re a boy you would be named Andres.
I pray that you will be the person God wants you to be. You can be the person I want you to be but you can also ignore this letter.
Go ahead and be whatever you want to be. Shine the brightest in your own ways with your own identity.
Anak, life is hard as it is. Don’t take it very seriously. After all, that’s how it is supposed to be. Just do not make it harder for yourself!
If you would ask me to describe what life is, I would say that it is like a roller coaster. Do not worry, it will be a fun ride!
I am excited to meet you! You do not exist yet but I already have loved you. There’s this feeling of love in my heart that I am ready to give you unconditionally.
